Butterfly Rail

Butterfly Rail is a version of the Butterfly concept that is specially adapted for long-distance trains. Designed with simplified mechanisms and durable construction to match the unique requirements of the railway market, Butterfly Rail brings the comfort and density of airline-style seating to the railway industry. With the same kind of flexibility as the Butterfly aircraft seat, Butterfly Rail is set to open up new opportunities for intercity train services.

Night & Day

Different times of the day yield different kinds of market demand. Butterfly Rail’s ability to quickly transform between 2-seaters and flatbed suites creates new business models for train operators. During the night, operators can offer intercity long-distance sleeper services with flatbeds that allow passengers to sleep overnight and arrive refreshed. During daytime when demand for sleeper service is limited, operators can opt for twice the number of seats to sell cheaper tickets on shorter routes. This enables much higher utilization of the vehicles to minimize capital expenditure and maximize profit.

Features

Butterfly Rail is modeled after airline-style long-haul business class seating but at a lower price point, yet keeping all the essentials to give passengers space, comfort, and privacy. With a tip-to-tip bed length of over 78” and a bed width of over 40” at the hips, these all-aisle-access flatbeds give passengers ample room to stretch out.
